Whether you’re watching the 2022 World Cup on television or listening to the match on radio, you’re likely to be interested in the Qatar World Cup team roster. Qatar’s national team has not won a World Cup, but they have reached the semifinals of the Arab Cup and North American’s 2021 Gold Cup. They have a good group of young players, and a well-organized team. But they’re not yet considered a World Cup contender, and they might have a difficult time in the group stage.
Coach Felix Sanchez has made an initial roster of 26 players. Those players have all played in Qatar’s domestic league, the Qatar Stars League. The national team will have the flexibility to replace a player or two from the squad, up to 24 hours before the start of the game. This means that they can be replaced by a player from their own team, or another team in Qatar. Qatar hasn’t played in UEFA qualifying for the World Cup, but they can make changes to their roster before the first game. The team has made some impressive performances in global friendlies, including a win against Saudi Arabia and a draw against UAE. They’ve also played against Serbia, the Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan.
The team has been largely untested outside of their national league. But that’s not to say they don’t have talent. Qatar’s star player is undoubtedly Akram Afif, who has helped the team to win the Asian Cup with 10 assists. He’s a fast, one-v-one player, and he’s a key component of their transition game. He’s also a relationship player with his winger, Almoez Ali.
Akram Afif, Almoez Ali, Homam Ahmed, Tarek Salman and Bassam Al-Rawi will all start for Qatar in the World Cup. The team is also bolstered by nationalized Qataris. Youssef Hassan is the team’s third-choice goalkeeper, and he’s a good player, too. Youssef played for the UAE last season, but he’s currently playing for Al-Rayyan. The team’s only other goalkeeper is Jassem Jaber, who was called up for the Al-Arabi squad during the international break in September.
Another key player on the team is Jonathan David. He’s a strong player who has played for Barcelona’s U-19 team. He’s also a talented winger who’s spent time playing for Lille. He’s got a little bit of a knack for scoring goals, and he’s probably the team’s best striker.
Another star player is Tim Weah, who has spent time playing for PSG and Lille. He’s got a lot of speed and is good at putting passes on the ball. He’s also a good winger, and he was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. Originally he chose to represent USMNT over other countries. His father is currently president of Liberia.
There’s also Weston McKennie, a midfielder who’s been a fixture in the U.S. team over the last few years. He’s a star player, but he’s not likely to win the World Cup. Despite that, he’s a strong midfielder, and he’s got a partnership that’s dubbed MMA. He’s also a defender, and he’s got a lot of speed and can contribute to attacking set pieces.
